Use Crystals for Better Skin

microdermabrasion Naples, FLWhen you read that, your first thought was a darkened room with Yanni music playing and a Shirley Maclaine book on the nightstand, huh? Well, in Naples there still is a New Age contingent hanging around, but the crystals we’re talking about at Naples Cosmetic Surgery aren’t Zen related; they’re more interested in ridding your skin of some of its dull, damaged surface cells. It’s called microdermabrasion, and it’s a great way to revitalize your facial skin without any downtime.
We use microcrystals to abrade the top layer of your skin. Think of it as a light sandblasting. That sounds extreme, but that’s the idea behind microdermabrasion. Instead of removing unwanted stains or paint, you’re removing the dull, lifeless external layer of your epidermis. Microdermabrasion exposes the glowing, fresh skin underneath.
Dr. Turk recommends microdermabrasion as either a stand-alone procedure or as a preparation for facelifts, brow lifts, or midface lifts.

The conditions that microdermabrasion helps

Microdermabrasion is effective when used for certain skin conditions:

  • Solar lentigines
  • Oily skin
  • Mild, shallow acne scarring
  • Melasma
  • Dilated pores
  • Thick skin

How microdermabrasion works

At Naples Cosmetic Surgery, we are big fans of microdermabrasion as a way to keep your skin looking revitalized. The procedure is very effective and very easy to take, with no downtime. It’s non-invasive and non-surgical. It involves the use of aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals to exfoliate the skin surface. The crystals are sprayed onto the skin through a wand that also suctions back the crystals and any dead skin that has been removed. The degree of exfoliation is determined by the amount of suction used, along with the number of passes made over an area.
Each of our microdermabrasion sessions includes both the face and the neck. We recommend a series of six sessions to enhance skin hydration, sebum production, and texture. Appointments are spaced two to three weeks apart to allow the skin to recover. No anesthesia or numbing agents are necessary.
One thing that’s important, especially with our Florida sunshine, is to avoid sun exposure after your microdermabrasion session. This is because your skin is a little less protected once some of the surface cells and oils have been removed.
