It is best to not be smoking weeks before or after the surgery. Generally, placement of the implant above the muscle versus below the muscle is less painful for the first 48 hours after surgery for most.
DO NOT take Advil, Motrin or Aspirin like products and fish oils for 2 weeks before the procedure to reduce swelling and bruising after the surgery. Warming blankets before and after in our surgery suite helps with healing as well.
Our practice performs local and regional anesthesia to reduce pain after surgery. We use IV sleep anesthesia instead of gas general anesthesia which quickens healing and reduces post-operative nausea and vomiting. Filling your prescriptive medications before surgery can help better prepare your needs for medication hours after surgery at home. A higher protein diet helps with preoperatively healing and avoiding high salt in reducing swelling and to improve healing time recovery. And finally the correct bra support is important in the first several weeks following your breast augmentation.
