Fraxel Laser

What is the Fraxel Laser?

Naples Cosmetic Surgery Center is proud to offer laser resurfacing technology using our Fraxel re:store® Laser System. FDA cleared for wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), pigmented lesions, melasma, soft tissue coagulation, acne scars and surgical scars, sun damage and actinic keratosis. This laser treatment targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate deep into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. This treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.

What Does Fraxel® re:store Treat?

Fraxel re:store is a specific laser treatment that is intended for the correction of scarring and the signs of aging. A conservative laser resurfacing treatment, it improves your skin texture, smoothes wrinkles and scars, minimizes pore size, and can gradually reduce hyperpigmentation. This fractional laser treatment can be performed on the face and various parts of the body, including the chest, neck, and hands.

How is Fraxel re:store Different From Other Laser Treatments?

Historically, laser skin resurfacing has involved fully-ablative CO2 laser technology. This is still in use today, but it may require general anesthesia and very strict aftercare to achieve optimal results. Fractional laser technology is more conservative so more accessible to more people. Fraxel re:store fits right into your daily routine. The brief procedure stimulates tissue rejuvenation through collagen remodeling that is prompted by the creation of numerous microscopic wounds. These are limited to the upper layers of the skin. They are also spaced a precise distance apart so healthy tissue bridges the gaps in which wounds have occurred. Studies confirm that this technique, which treats a fraction of the skin, accelerates optimal results while minimizing side effects and downtime.

When Can I Expect to See Results from My Fraxel Laser Treatment?

You might begin noticing some improvements soon after your Fraxel re:store treatment. However, your body is in "rejuvenation mode" for two to three months after you undergo fractional laser resurfacing. So, keep watching and enjoying the way your skin changes. This can continue for up to a year!

How Can I Maintain the Results from My Fraxel re:store Treatment?

After receiving your laser skin resurfacing treatment, you want to pamper your skin. This will only serve you in the long run. One way to maintain optimal results after Fraxel re:store is to wear sunscreen every day. If your target area is your face, you might choose a moisturizer or foundation with built-in broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen. You might also choose an SPF mineral powder. There are several options to choose from. Additionally, you can support your aging skin by using medical-grade skincare products. We offer Revision Skincare products through our Naples, FL med spa. These products are created by the founder of Art of Skin MD and are formulated for clinical-level results.

Recovery from Fraxel Laser Procedure

After the laser skin resurfacing procedure, patients may experience mild swelling and discomfort for a few days. These symptoms can be controlled with ice packs and medication prescribed by your doctor. Patients will also experience redness that gradually diminishes as the skin heals. While most patients can return to work and other normal activities after a few days, redness may persist for several weeks.

The results of laser skin resurfacing may take months to fully appear after all signs of redness have diminished. Although the results are long-lasting, they are not permanent. The skin will still be subjected to the natural effects of aging, although your skin will appear younger and smoother than if you had never had any treatment at all.

Are There Risks Associated with the Fraxel Laser?

Although laser skin resurfacing is considered safe for most patients, there are certain risks associated with any type of procedure. Some of these risks may include scarring, infection, abnormal healing, allergic reactions or skin pigmentation. However, these risks are considered rare, and most patients undergo these procedures with no major complications.
