Changing Your Nose

Nose Surgery Naples, FLWhen you don’t like your nose, it’s hard to get away from seeing it. With most other parts of your body, you can cover things up with clothes. Not your nose. It looks right back at you every morning when you look in the mirror. The hump on the bridge, the bulbous tip, any flaw is right there staring at you.
And it’s been that way for as long as you paid attention.
Maybe it’s about time to do something about it by having Dr. Turk perform nose surgery to give you a nose you like seeing in the mirror!

What is nose surgery?

Nose surgery clinically termed rhinoplasty, can be either functional, to improve breathing, for instance; or it can be purely aesthetic, to change the way it looks. In this surgery, Dr. Turk reshapes the nose by changing the cartilage and bone of the nose.

Why do people opt for rhinoplasty?

These are common reasons patients come to us for nose surgery:

  • Modify the width of the nose
  • Remove a hump on the bridge
  • Balance the nose size with the rest of the face
  • Improve the profile
  • Contour the tip to correct a droop or upturn
  • Reduce a bulging tip
  • Change overly flared nostrils
  • Correct asymmetry

Is there an age limitation to this surgery?

The patient’s nose and facial features must have finished growing to be a candidate for rhinoplasty. That means a patient has to be at least 13 years old.

What is the method?

Dr. Turk uses either open or closed rhinoplasty. In open rhinoplasty, he makes an incision on the columella, the thin tissue, and cartilage at the bottom of the nose. He then lifts the soft tissue away from the underlying bone and cartilage. The open method allows the most access to the nose structure so that larger changes can be made.
In the closed method, incisions are made within the nose, although the soft tissues are still lifted to allow changes to the structure. If necessary, Dr. Turk can build up an overly small nose by taking cartilage from the septum or even using synthetic material.
Once the structural changes are made, the soft tissue is redraped, and the incision is closed.
Nose surgery can be a very satisfying procedure for someone who has hated his or her nose their entire life. Does that sound like you? If so, call Dr. Turk at (239) 348-4357 to schedule a consultation.
